The Ontario government is investing $725,000 in North Dundas businesses. The announcement was made on August 5, as part of a $3 million windfall for manufacturers and agri-food businesses in Eastern Ontario. The dollars are from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund that has $100 million to allocate by 2023.
“Our government’s top priority throughout the pandemic has been protecting the province’s health and protecting our jobs and economy,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “These projects will make a significant impact in communities and economies in Eastern Ontario. They will enable long-term measurable outcomes, including private-sector investments, job creation and retention, and strong regional growth.”
Sevita International Corp. is spending $3.6 million to build a new soybean processing facility in Inkerman. The province is contributing a $500,000 grant to the project, which will create seven new local jobs and retain 28 positions. The investment will enable Sevita to grow its seed business in Eastern Ontario by roughly 50 per cent
The other local business benefiting from provincial backing is Fortier Stark Industrial, which is constructing a new facility in Winchester and purchasing equipment to increase production capacity. The company will manufacture and clean stainless steel tanks and process piping skids for the food, dairy and beverage industry. The Ontario government is contributing a $225,000 grant to the $1.5 million project, which will create five new jobs and retain another five.
